Former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo says her relationship with San Francisco football player Christian McCaffrey is “rooted in God.”
Culpo talked about the relationship on her new reality TV series, The Culpo Sisters.
She said they have been dating for three years and discussed their relationship further in an interview with Fox News, CBN News reports.
“The foundation of our relationship has always been God,” she said. “And I feel like when things are hard or when you’re both overwhelmed {and} there’s not a ton that you can give to each other, you can always rely on God. So, I feel like if the foundation is there, if there’s a foundation of that in any relationship, it is incredibly helpful. Sometimes you just need help with any relationship… That’s not only like with friendships. It’s with everything. I think it’s important to be faith-based, truly.”
McCaffrey is an outspoken Christian. In college, he played for the Stanford Cardinals and was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the 2017 NFL draft. In April 2020, he signed a $64 million contract with the team that included a $21.5 million signing bonus. The contract made him the highest-paid running back in the NFL at the time.
In October, the Panthers traded McCaffrey to the 49ers.
“When you see me take the field, know that I’m playing for more than just football. I have a strong faith in God,” he wrote in a 2016 article for The Player’s Tribute. “I don’t think He’s looking down on me and hoping that I score touchdowns. Nah, He just wants to see that I did my absolute best on that particular day.”
McCaffrey has said his favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 1:7, which reads: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Culpo’s new show airs on Wednesdays on TLC and is streaming on Discovery +.
“I think [the series] is a wonderful opportunity for us to show just how humbled and humbling our parents are,” oldest sister Aurora Culpo told Fox News Digital. “They’re not afraid to bring us right back down to Earth anytime they think we’re getting a little too high and mighty. I think a lot of people might relate to that, especially if you have parents that don’t have any filters like ours. We have five kids in our family. We’re all on the show. It’s chaotic and rooted in love, which I think is ultimately what makes us lovable.”
